The Outfitter Stormfly® is designed to shed heavy weather, increase stability in the wind, and protect cotton canvas from UV in long term camp setups. Its extended front awning can be guyed out with awning poles (sold separately) for a shade or guyed directly to the ground to create a sheltered vestibule.
Only compatible with the Springbar® Outfitter tent model.
StormFly® Benefits:
Features/Specs:
Haven't used the Stormfly in the field yet, but it goes up quickly, and seems like it'll offer some rain protection plus possibly trap some heat near the top of the tent. I'd like at least one front/rear flap to extend further out to provide more shade PLUS a portico-like side panel (left or right) would be nice.
I got my Outfitter nearly a year ago but I've already taken it out across California: Joshua Tree, Alpine County and several places around the Bay. It's handled the wind like a champ, but it made for a few miserable nights, both in the High Desert and on top of mountains. I knew I needed to get a Stormfly as soon as it came out, so I did. Used it for the first time this past week on Mount Diablo and it performed better than I expected. I could hear the wind, but I couldn't feel it. No tent shaking and my dog slept peacefully. Only thing I would improve would be the included stakes. They're OK, but I prefer and used my heavier duty wedge stakes.
