Bent Pole Replacement

I have used Springbar tents for close to 20 years, I think. My original got taken by the former wife, so I tentless for short time.

I had a Traveler, and replaced it when the original departed. Sometime thereafter, I added a Family Camper for the added room. Then the Skyliner came out, and a heated Springbar sounded like a grand idea, so I bought one of those as well.

All three tents sat idol for a couple of years, then the Traveler and the Family Camper went on a weekend trip to the Big Horns, and all was well and life was good.

A couple of years later, this year, it came time once again to take the tents out, this time, all would go. Things went well for the first couple of setups and teardowns.

Then disaster struck. A high wind came up, probably gusting 40-45mph, when the wind side upright pole decided to give up the ghost, bending in a 95 or so degree angle. I have had my original Traveler in higher winds for longer periods, blizzards, with no ill affects. Fortunately, on two accounts, the storm didn't last long, and the Skyliner had not been setup, so a loaner pole was used to finish the trip.

Much to Springbar's credit, they replaced the upright pole, even after several years of "out of warranty" service.

I'm not sure if there has been a metallurgical change, supply vendor change, or other change that would account for the pole bending, but it came as quite a surprise given the weather my other tent has endured.

Bottom line is, Springbar replaced the pole with no trouble.
