The Winnerwell camp oven is a well made, nice looking little oven, however the sheet metal is very thin, soft, and comes with very sharp edges. It will bend and dent VERY easily if treated rough! I have not used it yet. I had originally planned to use the thing atop a charcoal grill, and/or a kerosene stove flame in emergency conditions. I didn't realize it had a fine stainless steel screen as the bottom plate of the oven until after I bought it, and then reading other reviews on the oven, I was concerned about using it over an open flame and burning my food. The open mesh floor will allow too much heat through if used over a live flame, SO..... I decided on a fix. I removed the screen mesh oven floor plate and measured it. It measures 9.0625 x 11.1875 in. I went online and ordered a 304 SS plate (Custom cut. The same metal as the oven 304 SS. Online Metals $18.75 without shipping) The 304 SS plate is .075 in thick and cut to the exact dimensions of the screen mesh oven bottom. I simply slide the mesh screen floor out of its retainers, and replace it with the 304 SS plate. The oven will probably take slightly longer to warm up, but the solid metal floor plate should help to retain, even out, and stabilize the ovens internal heat, and there are no permanent modifications to the oven and the screen mesh floor can always be put back in.
